The Power of Pre-Visualization

In the fast-paced and ever-evolving world of live event production, staying ahead of the curve is essential. One of the most transformative tools at our disposal is pre-visualization (pre-viz) lighting programming. This technology not only elevates the quality of our productions but also offers substantial financial savings. Let's dive into how pre-viz works, why it’s a game-changer, and how we strive to make our pre-viz files as realistic as possible.

Financial Savings: The Bottom Line

One of the most significant advantages of pre-viz lighting programming is its impact on the budget. By creating detailed, realistic 3D models of our lighting designs before we step foot on-site, we can identify potential issues and make necessary adjustments early in the process. This foresight drastically reduces the need for last-minute changes, which can be costly and time-consuming.

Moreover, pre-viz allows us to perfect our designs without the pressure of on-site hourly rates. It means fewer overtime hours for crew members, reduced rental costs for lighting and video equipment, and minimized venue expenses. The ability to plan meticulously in a virtual environment translates into substantial savings, making the entire production process more efficient and cost-effective.

Realism in Pre-Viz: Bringing Designs to Life

Creating realistic pre-viz files is at the heart of what we do. Our goal is to build a 3D world that mirrors the final production as closely as possible. This involves incorporating all elements of production, from moving lights and video to automation and pyrotechnics.

  1. Lighting: We meticulously program moving lights to simulate their real-world movements and effects. By adjusting color, intensity, and patterns in the pre-viz stage, we can ensure that the lighting design enhances the overall experience, creating the desired mood and atmosphere.

  2. Video: Video content is seamlessly integrated into the pre-viz environment. This includes projection mapping, LED screens, and any other video elements. By seeing how video interacts with lighting and set design in a virtual space, we can make necessary adjustments to achieve a cohesive visual experience.

  3. Automation: From moving set pieces to dynamic stage elements, automation is a critical component of modern live events. In pre-viz, we can program and visualize the timing and movements of automated elements, ensuring they align perfectly with the overall design.

  4. Pyrotechnics: Pre Viz’ing pyrotechnics in the context of the entire production, ensuring they are both impactful and viewed in the grand scheme of the show lighting and visuals.

The Ultimate Goal: A Seamless Live Experience

Our ultimate goal with pre-viz lighting programming is to create a seamless live experience that captivates the audience. By building a realistic 3D world, we can anticipate challenges and fine-tune every detail, ensuring that the final production is as close to perfection as possible.

Pre-visualization is not just about saving money; it's about enhancing creativity and ensuring the highest quality in every aspect of production. It's about pushing the boundaries of what's possible and delivering unforgettable experiences.

At Vue Show Design Group, we are committed to harnessing the power of pre-viz to bring your vision to life. Whether it's a concert, trade show, or any live event, our expertise in creating realistic and detailed pre-viz files ensures that every element of production is meticulously planned and executed. By investing in pre-viz, you're investing in a smoother, more efficient, and ultimately more spectacular event.

Ready to take your event to the next level? Let’s make magic happen, one pre-viz file at a time.

One of our most used tools is the L8 Visualiser, Which we like because it can input all disiplines from the show. We live feed video Via NDI or other SDI input capture devices. This allows us to see every detail to make sure the show looks visually cohesive. We have additonal camera feeds routed in our studio so we can also check close up lighting state of talent onstage.
